Collection: Alebrijes
Today the Alebrijes are an undeniable part of the cultural and artistic imagination of Mexico. (Vargas, 2021).
These are somewhat surreal, zoomorphic, mutant, hybrid, fantastic animals. With the peculiar characteristic of being bright and vibrant colors.
They are imaginary beings, conceived from the most creative side and brought to reality in the form of precious figures. As it is part of traditional Mexican art, it is believed that giving an Alebrije as a gift helps to "scare away" evil spirits from homes, especially those that are "monstrous" in appearance. There is also a belief according to Zapotec mythology, in which each human being is born accompanied by an animal that guides and cares for it throughout its life called "nahual" or "alebrije" (Ochoa, 2020).
One of the characteristics of the alebrijes is their colorful appearance, so each of their tones has a different meaning, green is associated with nature and empathy, while pink symbolizes love, orange is used to release the emotions
negative and yellow with the expression of our feelings, joy and luxuries, blue reflects tranquility and coffee meant connection with the earth and animals (Muñoz, 2021).
